International Elementary School Curriculum

The British National Curriculum forms the backbone of our sought-after Primary School in Alicante, providing a structured and internationally recognised framework for learning. Spanish, Valenciana, and Sociales are integrated into the British National Curriculum, ensuring that children develop meaningful bilingual fluency while meeting the requirements of the Spanish education system.

Our curriculum places particular emphasis on deeper learning in the core disciplines of reading, writing, and mathematics, ensuring that pupils develop secure literacy and numeracy skills.

Metacognition, lateral thinking, and communication skills are also key focus points of our Elementary curriculum, laying the groundwork for Middle school success that carries through right to Year 13

This strong academic foundation is complemented by a broad and balanced programme of subjects that encourage curiosity and connect learning to the real world. Active, engaging, hands-on learning helps Junior School pupils to explore ideas across disciplines and develop a genuine enthusiasm for inquiry by applying their knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Laying the Groundwork for Success Through Key Stage 1 Curriculum

(Ages 5-7)

The focus in Key Stage 1 is on fostering enjoyment in the learning process while building on the knowledge and skills gained in Early Years. The main objectives in years 2 and 3 are mastery of literacy, numeracy, science, and languages. Content is based on the appropriate level of the English National Curriculum, which is, by nature, broad and balanced, enhanced by the integration of strategic educational technologies designed to improve retention and understanding while still limiting screen time. Beyond academic outcomes, our participatory approach to Elementary teaching is intended to help students improve communication skills in English, foster curiosity, a thirst for answers, and autonomy. Subjects include English Language, Spanish, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Computing, Physical Education, PSHE, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Sociales, and Valencian, which is introduced in Year 2.

Enhancing Understanding and Independence in Key Stage 2

(Age 7-9)

The Junior School curriculum covers content from the formative years of Key Stage 2 of the English National Curriculum, fostering independent, confident, and articulate learners. We offer challenging learning journeys tailored to each child’s needs, helping to unlock their full potential and introducing them to the deep subject understanding and personal skills needed to thrive in the next academic stage.

Children regularly participate in out-of-school visits, specifically chosen to enhance classroom learning as well as cross-curricular topic-based investigations. Students are also expected to join extracurricular activities, like robotics, languages, and sports, all of which contribute towards them growing into capable, strategically minded, and well-rounded individuals.

Elementary subjects required at this level include: English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Humanities, Physical Education, PSHE, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Sociales, Spanish, and Valencian.

Trilingual Fluency

Establishing Trilingual Fluency in Primary School

English immersion lies at the heart of our approach across all subjects, delivered by native English-speaking teachers who create a fully immersive linguistic environment from Pre-Nursery. This model is essential to developing confident, fluent English speakers, regardless of their home language or background.

Alongside English, pupils receive 4 to 5 hours per week of Spanish instruction, following the National Curriculum with a practical, active methodology.

Valenciano is introduced from Year 2, adding a third language to the programme and supporting families who wish their children to be fully integrated into the linguistic landscape of the Comunidad Valenciana. For families seeking even greater breadth, additional languages, including French, Mandarin, and German, are available through our extracurricular clubs.
