What Languages Can You Study Through IGCSEs?

The Cambridge IGCSEs offer over 30 languages, ensuring every region has access to appropriate options. At our IGCSE school in Alicante, English is our main language of instruction and is a compulsory subject along with Spanish and Valencian, reflecting the linguistic diversity of our city.

Learn More About the IGCSEs

Exact requirements for IGCSEs vary by subject; however, the primary method is through externally set and marked written examinations at the end of Year 11. Like in other areas of the UK system, these are graded on a scale from 9 to 1, with 9 being the highest possible score. The numerical score aligns with a letter grade from A* to G, with a 4 or a low C being the minimum passing mark.

In addition to written assessments, some subjects, like languages, may also include an oral examination, while others, like Art, require a portfolio of work

The primary difference between the International General Certificate of Secondary Education offered in Alicante and the GCSEs you may find in the UK is the cultural focus. GCSEs are intended for UK students, while IGCSEs offer an equivalent and globally respected international qualification for those living outside the UK.

Both the Cambridge IGCSEs and Pearson Edexcel IGCSEs that we offer in Alicante are equally highly regarded for their challenging academic and personal development benefits.
The Pearson Edexcel IGCSEs are intended for international learners in Years 10 and 11 and is sometimes considered more direct while still maintaining a focus on soft skills like mental agility and independence.

The Cambridge pathway is sometimes considered more exam-focused and forms part of the iProgress route, a comprehensive academic route designed for students from age 5 to 19 years.
